Although boilers were swopped between locos at overhaul, as I understand it, the two types were not interchangeble. The sloping throatplate ones wouldn't fit in the frames of vertical throatplate locos. 45595 and 45571 were vertical, not sure about 45621. The Jubilees also had two different bogies. 6' 3" as used on the Patriots and the standard 6' 6" Stanier. 45595 and 45571 were Stanier but again I'm not sure about 45621

Since my last post I've found out that the shorter 6' 3" bogies were on locos 5552 - 5556 and 5607 - 5654. so obviously 45621 would be one of these. The bogie types were not interchangeable. I'm not sure if any of the 6' 3" locos came with sloping throatplate. A bit more reading might be needed!

I'm not sure if it will help but take a look at this fantastic JUbilee site: www.jubilees.co.uk
Click on: "photographs" on the left and select the loco you wish....Then click on the photograph to access more (some are in colour). Last edited by Resolution; 21st April 2011 at 02:15. |

Thank you Resolution. A very useful site as I have now found a photo of Nyasaland and Swaziland as well. I did not know that there were locos named after those countries as well.

DSY011, As you can tell from my chosen Forum name, I'm a great fan of the class. The proportions and tapered boiler design owe a great deal to it's Ex GWR designer of course, of which I'm also a fan.
But www.jubilees.co.uk is a fantastic site isn't it? Some of those photo's take me back years!...and I tell you what! Sometimes they make we almost weep at what has been destroyed. Ah Well! ....Progress! they say! Glad to be of help and hope you enjoy viewing the pics................Res. |

All Jubilees eventually got BR green, although it took a few years after BR was formed in 1948. The RCTS book on the class has livery change dates if you need such info.
