Schemes to improve the rail network across the East Midlands to cope with passenger demand are announced by Network Rail.

As long as they are not going to turn it into some sort of Very High Frequency thing where every off peak train goes non stop between Nottingham and London or something like that, sounds good to me. I think there were plans to extend the Derby-London service to Sheffield.

Plans are ok but its action that is needed

I really think that old our track lines that have now been reduced to two need to be with four once more.
This line may not have or has got four tracks but more tracks means less congestion.
Reopening lines is always a good idea and I really think that main lines and secondry routes should not have closed.
Some branch lines did need to close but these were closed before BR and therefore there was a good reason for the closure.
Even if we never get back to the huge amount of lines that we had, we need at least 2000 miles for the time being to improve public transpot and do our bit for the planet.
global warming is like a fire at sea. After we ruin our planet we have no where to go.
