Pocklington, East Yorkshire 1881 - 1918

Hello,
My name is Ashley and I am trying to find anyone who has a photograph(s) of The Balk, railway crossing at Pocklington.
The Balk is the name of the road and it had a crossing that was operated by my great uncle who lived at the house that went with the job.
I have a photo of all the staff (undated) sitting outside the station, which is helpful but as I do not know which one is Mark Fairburn it is at the same time useless!
For quite some time now I have been trying to find a photo of the house/crossing/Mark etc etc but with no success, so when I found this forum I thought that someone, somewhere, might be able to help.
So the question is: do you have a photo/postcard of the crossing at Pocklington?
It's a long shot, but like the lottery 'you have to be in it to win it' .

Many thanks for that thought - I've been on to them and they say that they have hundreds of photos of the area but not of Pocklington.

Hello Ashley 25.10

Seeing your request I was in Newton Abbot railway library yesterday and looked up several E Yorks railway books without success. There was a small book 'Hudson's Way' which showed a photo of railway staff at Pocklington in 1960s, view of outside of station and also of a derailment nearby at one time. I think I travelled once on that line from Beverley to York about 1965 returning on a round trip via Scarborough.
There is a group based at York whose interest is to reopen some of that line. Perhaps you already know.
regards
Chris

Hi Chris,

Many thanks. Yes I've been in touch with them, but with no success.
I don't mind how many people give me a "direction" to go and try, it is always usefull and I thank you for it.

I came across a picture of similar sorts a few days ago, while surfing randomly on the railway galleries. I will try to track that down again and if something good happens, will let you know.

Have you tried 'Transport Treasury'?
