Steam train to Achensee, Tirol

Does anyone know if this runs in the first week of the new year?

No it doesn't the Achenseebahn only operates from May to October. However the adjoining railway at Jenbach the Zillertalbahn does operate a Steam Service. Last year it operated a return journey to Mayrhofen during the xmas period. check out www.zillertalbahn.at
