Australia's Fastest Train Suspended.
HUNDREDS of Easter holidaymakers have had their long weekend plans scrapped after Queensland Rail indefinitely suspended the Cairns-to-Brisbane Tilt Train.
In a statement posted on the QR website yesterday, passenger executive general manager Paul Scurrah said the service had been axed on advice from the State's Rail Safety Regulator, which is investigating the fatal level crossing crash near Cardwell late last year.
Transport Minister Rachel Nolan also issued a statement, saying she supported QR's `safety-first' response.
On Thursday, before the service was suspended, the Townsville Bulletin emailed to QR and Ms Nolan's office 14 questions directly relating to diesel tilt train operations following last year's crash.
