Railway tunnel under city shuts (BBC News)

Rail passengers face disruption over the festive period as the tunnel beneath Southampton is due to shut for 10 days from Christmas Day.

Whats the work then ? Is it to do with the tunnel structure or the track ?

I think that the work involves lowering the trackbed level; it's to allow for larger container clearance.

Yes the 9'6" high containers cant get clearance so have to go by road up north not rail.
The majority of contrs coming in are now 9'6" high contrs so the train doesnt get a fair crack at the whip in commercial terms. Hence carbon thingies are all to cock!!
