Why does freight from Felixstowe to Nuneaton have to go via London at the moment ?

The route via London is the only route with a W10 loading gauge capable of taking 9'6" high containers. It joins the bottom part of the WCML which is also cleared for W10.

Could be

Stowmarket - Bury st Edmunds -March - Peterborough - ????

Don't suppose they will build any new bits, just make the clearances suitable for the bigger containers like they are going to do at Southampton.

I would like to see the proposed route as well.

If I have read the map correctly the proposed route is Felixstowe - Bury St Edmunds - Soham - Ely - March - Peterborough (with further W10 loading gauge enhancement from here via ECML to Leeds) - Melton Mowbray - Leicester - Nuneaton (WCML). In addition to loading gauge enhancement the project also includes some trackwork alterations to allow for longer trains.
