Hello

My name is Paul Miller and I have had a life long interest in railways. I am 60, a young feeling one, and I am a retired engineer. I am also a railway modeller and have an incomplete, aren't they always, layout at home.

I have a serious interest in old railway structures, and believe that the person who decided that Nottingham Victoria Station should be knocked down should have been flogged in public.

I look forward to many happy hours with the forum.

Hello Paul welcome to the forum 60 is not old, I'm 70 and I suppose some would say that's old, but who's bothered.
Cheers Alan Locojoe

Hi Paul.

Strange that you should mention Nottingham Victoria. I was a student in Nottingham and spent many happy hours in York House (I think it was called), not listening to lecturers but staring down into the deep cutting that was associated with Nottingham Vic. Well, I think it was, but my memory isn't anywhere near as sharp as it could be!

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Trev,

Yes York house is still there, it used to be the home of BBC Radio Nottingham, dont know who is in it now.
Victoria station was an amazing place, the size of the cuuting was absolutely immense. So much is left if you look for it. A lot of the blue brick retaining walls are incorporated into the multu level car park, and at one point near to the car park level of John Lewis department store you actually go under the Parliament Street bridge wher the trains used to go out of Victoria heading south. The size of the girders are massive. When the Victorians built anything it was meant to last 1000 years.
