Cool unusal signal boxes

not sure if this link works but here is Blandford station with it's strange looking signal box.

http://www.sdrt.org.uk/images01/blandf.jpg

it's unusal because it over hangs the good's shed line.
this was done because the station was on a curve and so gave the signalman a better view of the goods yard aswell as the main line.

anyone else know of strange looking signal boxes?

The signal boxes at Canterbury West and East are both unusual. The one at Canterbury West is on stilts and crosses the line. The one at Canterbury East slightly over hangs the up line. The link below will take you to a page about the signial box at Canterbury West.

Nothing odd about that style, kodiak. Looks quite normal to us southerners

Didnt Willesden used to have an famous "odd" box:- something like 4 stories high and very narrow ?

I think I have seen photos of this which made it look even narrower. Or I could be thinking of somewhere else entirely.

one photo is Blandford box and the other is Wimborne box.
Wimborne was a strange box because, like Blandford , it was high up because it was on a bend.

Hi Kodiak Bear

Your two photographs have been down-loaded to the gallery, and can be viewed by all.
