A nice story, but I'm not sure about him being the first train spotter.

I could imagine the first trainspotter going out with the first Ian Allen "ABC" and opening it to Page 1....... where there would be a single locomotive listed. (Presumably numbered "No 1")

Having carefully crossed it off, our trainspotter would cycle slowly home and wonder what to do tomorrow.

Maybe it would work better as a TV sketch
