Teddy Bear

In the Hornby Magazine, Issue 25, July 2009, Hattons Exclusive limited Editions say they are doing a run of 1600 Class 14 (Teddy Bears) in BR green. The actual Livery and colour are to be confirmed. They are by Heljan and are expected September or later. If it is anything like the Class 17 then it will be much later. They are quoting a price of £115. They also are doing a run of 512 Bachmann Class 150/22 DMU "Merseyrail" livery, due in September @ £95:00

This limited edition has been advertised since last year Syd. I think £115 is way over the top. They are also doing two other liveries, I think 500 of each. I would quite like a 14 but not enough to pay £115 for it!
Best wishes,

Like you John, I would love to have a Class 14 but I would not pay £115 for it. I have not seen the advert before so I thought it was something new. If it has been advertised since last year, that must tell them there is something wrong, like the price maybe!!

I think Hattons announced their intension to produce the 14 in May 2008. As you know Heljan have done one or two short runs including I think Falcon. Apparently they use Aluminium Tooling which cuts the set up costs and makes short runs viable. The aluminium tooling does not last very long but is OK for small batches of a few thousand.

Bachmann may be using the same approach with the NRM prototype Deltic.

Best wishes,

John H-T.
