Problems with Hornby 9f

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I am new and couldnt find anything so here goes.

I have a weathered Hornby 9f wich derails on curves (2nd Radius) what I find strange is it is always the same wheel set wich derails (the 4th set of drivers counting from the front of the locomotive) , All other stock is fine including bachman Peaks, lima class 40s and Bachman Standard 4 class locos , any ideas would be greatfully recieved.

Check back to back measurements on the wheels: should be around 14.3 mm.

I had a similar problem with mine from new, so I returned it to Hornby, who fixed it and returned it within 1 week! Runs fine now.

No I don't, sorry.

However I picked up a back to back gauge from the Shawplan stand at last March's Nottingham Exhibition.

Unfortunately problems with back to back measurements on Hornby Stock are not uncommon!

As yet I have not had a problem with Bachmann.

Thanks again for the reply, I have measured the back to back and it is very slightly less than you recomend but I am unsure how to rectify this without damaging the model, however , the problem seem to be more to do with the tender not moving up/down with any irregularity it the level of the track , it moves up then seems to lift the loco.

Not sure if I should open out the hole in the draw bar slightly.

The connection between loco and tender could be the problem if it is not seated properly, which will cause the tender to "jack up."
