Advice needed urgently!

Hello! My name is Georgia and unfortunately my Mum passed away two weeks ago, after battling cancer for 4 years. it is fathers day coming up and my Dad loves loves loves trains, especially steam trains. Obviously he has been going through so much and my sister and I want to take him out and do something he loves! But obviously have no idea about trains! We live in the Somerset area in Bath, could anyone please give us some advice about what is good as we dont want to take him on a naff novelty steam train! Is the east somerset steam train any good!?any adivce/info would be amazing, we want to make sure our Dad has they day he deserves as it has been very dark days recently.

Thankyou in advance,
Georgia and Daisy (Johns daughters)

Hi.
Sorry about your Mum passing away. Near to you are East Somerset and Bitton-Avon Valley. Both have websites as have most heritage railways so I suggest you have a look and see what you think.

I've not been to the East Somerset railway, but my Mum has and she was disappointed.

I'd suggest the West Somerset railway was a much better bet, and the station at Bishops Lydeard is about 60 miles from Bath.

I have to agree with pre65, the West Somerset railway was a much better bet. Just check if they are running steam or diesel on the day.

Hi Georgia, did you manage to get your father on a steam trip for fathers day? If so, which one did you go for in the end? I hope it was able to take his mind off the very sad loss of your mother to both of you for a short while.
Best wishes to you and your dad.
