Hissing Pendolinos?

Hi all,

Only my 2nd post - so i beg forgiveness if this has been covered many times (i couldn't see any reference to 'hissing pendolino' in the search), is in the wrong place or is just a plain silly question!

When travelling on the London - M'cr Pendolino, usually in the quiet coach, occasionally there's a weird hissing sound emanating from the corner where the WC is. It kind of goes 'Tsssstss tsssstss tssstss' pause, and then may or may repeat itself. It sounds like it could be some kind of air-freshener, but doesn't seem to correspondend to the WC being used, and i can't smell any 'pine freshness' in the air.

And it's really bugging me! Anyone know what it is?

Cheers all!
Dog.

I think it's probably the Air Conditioning unit, which I think has some of it's systems located near the bog's (much to people's dismay), but that's just a guess.

I think that sound is when it is being flushed. I am usually in coach A when onboard a 390, and with the toilet not far away, that sound always happensjust before someone comes out of there. There is certinately a hissing noise that I think happens three times. Any other noise might have been the drier being used.

Spot on there David, it is the same system that is used on aircraft so I have been told. And I also travel in Coach A when I can. All the best.

I don't think its just Pendo's. I was sitting near the Loo on a class 450 a few days ago and noticed something very similar.

Hmmm i'm sure it happens when no-one's in there - and it doesn't happen everytime someone has flushed (assuming they've flushed :-) ), and you can't hear it inside when you flush.

I'll double check next time!

That would make sense, they're virtually the same toilets

Sounds like an air freshener!
You can never really be sure as there is so much to hiss.

There is the WC itself and there is of couse the airbrakes which may be adjusting and may it not be the toilet itself or the person on it!
ha ha .

Here's a possibilty, bearing in mind the loos sit above the bogies, might it be the air suspension adjusting?
