Pacer 142 third coach?

I hate these little busses on rails.
Well they are not all bad come to think of it.
You get great views out the windows, so it is great on a smooth straight line on a non windy warm, sunny day.
Never going to happen.

Rail operators like to use them however, and I see why:
They are fuel efficient and can carry quite a number of people.

The problem is the mid cheshire line.
Yes there are now a few 150s and 156s trundling around now too but this is not enough.
The fact is that there are far too many people now using the line for these little trains to handle.
In rush hour people have to resort to standing in the door wells.
I have complained about this to northern and the mid cheshire rail group, but they are not being withdrawn fast enough.

Yes some were, but now the withdrawals have stopped.

My point is, if you they going to have them, why not add a middle coach like the 144s.

If this does not work, how about getting hold of those 144s that are being chucked because of a conversion to light rail?

Your thoughts please.
What should be done?

Your 142's havn't been withdrawn! They have been sent back to Devon and Cornwall to terrorise us again; we got rid several years ago because the tight curves down here wore the wheels too much.
The best suggestion was made several years ago to articulate the coaches with a four wheel bogie between them to give better riding, making the unit a 2-4-2.
If you ever rode a 142 over the old Arnside bridge, you will know where the nickname of "Nodding Donkeys" came from. I spent three years trying to avoid them whilst travelling daily between Wigan and Preston.
If you want them back, please ask First Great Western very nicely.

Pacers in rush hour suffer everywhere.

I am pretty much used to standing in the door wells now. Not a safe place to be in an accident I can tell you.

We dont want them back by any means.
You can have them all if you want.
The fact is that northern won't get rid of any more so I was wondering if they could get a third middle coach.
Is this possible?

I remember these trains in cornwall years ago.
We had the 140 experimental test train based at Laira
All the drivers said that they were no good in Devon and Cornwall because of the tight curves but we still got the 142 a pile of S???
I think the worst line was Liskeard to Looe you had to put your fingers in you ears it was that bad
