Hi

New to this site - I have loved steam trains since I can remember. We used to go to Oakleigh Park Train Station every Saturday (If my memory serves me well) and watch the Kings X trains heading out to wherever they went.

I have no idea of how a steam train works or why and I don't care really - I just LOVE them

My family and I are Premier Life Members of the Swanage Railway and hope one day it all comes back online to Poole

Hello Nick welcome to the forum, depending when you went to Oakleigh Park Station I may well have been firing one of those trains.

It was around the early 1970's until the late 1970's. We also used to go to Jacks Lake in Hadley Woods as you used to get a magnificent site of them charging through.

Hi All

Thanks for your comments - There is something so strange to love a machine that is now classified as "Out of Date" and yet has so much raw power and ..... oh I could go on ...

My son has this huge smile when he sees one on the TV, okay so do I or when they pass through Poole on a Saturday special to Weymouth from London. Actually saying that, the last time we had a steam train pass through Poole, we stood on the pedestrian crossing in teh middle of Poole with 200 others as we waited to cross the line and there were so many OOhhhss and Aaahhhhs as the train trundled past
