Freight trucks removed from track (BBC News)
The last three remaining trucks are removed from a rail line in East Ayrshire after a train fire on Monday.

At least they are calling them trucks now ( "you can't trust trucks"....). They were carriages to start off with.
It is ridiculous however, that there is no indication of when the line will reopen. At one time, in the distant past, the first priority was to clear the line and get some sort of service going. I can still remember the part from the Harrow and Wealdstone accident report in 1952 when it remarked that some lines were operational albeit with caution in under 24 hours. I do think the police who know absolutely nothing about railway operations should not be involved in any way except for road closures, spectator control etc unless they are definitely told by Rail staff that it could be a crime, such as an object placed on the track or some form of malicious act. Thinking on how long it takes these days to get some sort of service back, what about the early 1940s. How did they work through the night without great banks of floodlights? Services running again did not take days even after the track had been bombed.
Still can remember the AA guns just down the road. John (G)

Caution is the masterword now
In France also, it takes now days to get a line back into service after an incident or an accident.
Same thing for (more or less) heavy works of conversion. A suburban line near Paris used only by passenger shuttles every half hour (peak period) and one or two local freigth trains every day has been closed during TWO years simply to upgrade it (changing 3rd rail to overhead line) and lengthening it through an existing tunnel...

Same problem thet the roads have
Used to be tow truck, broom, mway open. Not any more the M11 was closed at stansted last year for 26 hours and the stolen car that crashed went off into a field! too much report writing and investigation what caused it, anyone heard. Sounds like hot box with axle failing and starting the fire like summit tunnel and wagons taking out the bridge IMHO
