The LNER (SVR) Coach Fund are organising their biennial Sponsored Walk on Saturday 13th October (Diesel Gala Weekend).
In normal times the Walk would focus on raising funds for the restoration of GNR composite coach No.2701 – which is nearing completion and should be in service in 2008.
But these are not normal times for the SVR, which faces costs of over £2m to restore the line to its former glory. So the Coach Fund has decided to donate 75% of this year’s Walk proceeds to the SVR Flood Damage Appeal. The 25% balance will also go to the SVR by a contract to complete the mechanical work on GNR coach No.2701, now nearing completion.
Subject to progress on re-opening the line after the floods, the Walk will be from Highley or Arley to Bewdley. A Barbeque, provided by the Severn Valley Railway Apprentices will greet walkers on their arrival at Bewdley. The Barbeque cost is £2.50 per head.
