East Lancs Railway

The ELR is closed between Bury and Rawtenstall due to flooding in the Irwell valley. Services will run between Bury and Heywood only, until further notice.

I hope all is well once the water recedes.

One of several lines that have been affected. Hope they all escape damage!

I think it's just an issue of floodwater. Having said that, part of the closed Waterside Pub that stood over the River Irwell at Summerseat has collapsed into the river, and there is a fear that the bridge itself may collapse. The railway viaduct a few hundred yards further down river seems to be ok up to now though.

Hope the floodwater doesn't damage the ELR track beds...

Excellent news for the ELR, the KWVR had similar problems and managed to reopen in remarkably quick time as well. It's a relief that on both railways none of considerable number of bridges crossing the rivers were seriously damaged
