Here is a Railtrack video explaining about the serious landslip that has closed the Settle & Carlisle line.

All that work and expense must guarantee survival of the line.

Doesn't surprise me really, all the rain we've had. Must be a constant worry, not just there, but up and down the country.

I've heard from a friend whose house backs onto the Settle - Carlisle line and he says his drinking buddy (a signalman) reckons the line repairs are ahead of schedule and there may be driver training runs before the official opening ceremony with Flying Scotsman.

Good news.

For the first time in nearly 50 years, a steam train is to run a timetabled passenger service in England.
The A1 Pacific Tornado will replace diesel trains on the Settle to Carlisle line between Skipton and Appleby for three days.
