A £55 million investment is set to bring more reliable journeys through Lincolnshire as Network Rail begins the final phase of complete renewal of
track and signalling through the centre of Lincoln.

The line will be closed from Saturday 19 July until Monday 1 September to enable engineers to renew track and 22 switches and crossings and replace semaphore signals with state-of-the-art computer controlled LED colour lights. Also, the High Street level crossing will be converted to CCTV monitoring and the road decking replaced.

Throughout the closure, East Midlands Trains will run replacement bus services between Sleaford, Lincoln and Doncaster, Lincoln and Newark
Northgate, Lincoln and Newark Castle for Nottingham and Lincoln and Grimsby/Cleethorpes.

East Midlands Trains commercial director David Horne said: “This project will provide long term reliability benefits to our customers and also
introduction of direct services between Lincoln and St Pancras International which will be launched at the end of this year. Our replacement road
transport will minimise inconvenience, and we shall be running special promotional travel offers before and after completion of the work.”

I suppose 6 weeks of inconvenience is not too bad a price to pay for a long term gain, but it shows again the shortsightedness of rationalisation that went on!

Someone told me a while ago (I think it might have been an FHH driver) that there's a fair degree of 20 mph PSRs round there. Does anyone know if this work will raise the linespeed at all ?

Ta,
Foggy
