Hello all

Hello and thank you for this forum. I am a railway fan and love to ride the rails. I live in the central coast of California. I ride the Pacific Surfliner all the time and love the ride. I recently rode the Amtrak from Washington D.C. to New York City then continued on to Syracuse NY. That beautiful ride inspired me to plan my first long distance trip. I decided to ride the Coastal Starlight from San Luis Obispo, CA to Portland, OR. Then I am jumping on the Empire Builder and going all the way to Chicago, IL. Then returning on the California Zepher. I was wondering if any of you had suggestions to make the trip more enjoyable???

Hello The SLOlife and welcome to the Railway Forum. Having never been to the USA, I'm not in a position to make any suggestions, apart from taking a few trips behind a steam loco. Enjoy your planed long distance trips and post some photo or video on the forum.

Hello & welcome to the forum.

That sounds really great - I'm jealous.

If money was no object I'd love to tour all over the Santa Fe railway. To see places that are just names to me....the Belen Cutoff, Skull Valley, Cajon Pass.

And I love the old American diesels from the 1950s-90s, especially EMDs. The era of F units and boosters is just so stylish. I'd be off to find some of those preserved, and even better if they were running and you could ride behind them.

(I'd also like to ride Route 66 on a Harley...but that belongs on a different forum ).

Make sure you take plenty of photos...and stick some on here.

Best wishes, BW
