Petrol Bomb Thrown At Train - Cambridgeshire

5 January 2009 14:50 POLICE APPEAL FOR INFORMATION AFTER PETROL BOMB THROWN AT TRAIN - CAMBRIDGESHIRE British Transport Police has issued an appeal for information after a petrol bomb was thrown at a train passing through St Neots, Cambridgeshire. The driver of a high-speed Glasgow to King’s Cross service reported that an incendiary device had been thrown at the train at just after 9pm on Sunday 28 December 2008, as the train passed over the bridge near to Howitts Gardens in Eynesbury. A subsequent search of the railway line by police officers led to the recovery of two smashed beer bottles, both with singed, pink cloth forced inside the necks. No damage was caused to the train and no one was injured as a result, but police have condemned the actions of those responsible. “Throwing any object at a fast-moving train is dangerous – but to throw something like a beer bottle filled with petrol is just mindless,” said Detective Constable Paul Menarry, investigating officer from British Transport Police. “Those who venture on to or near the railway to commit such an act should know that they are not just jeopardising the safety of rail staff and passengers, they are also risking their own lives. The railway is not a playground – it is a dangerous place.” Police are urging anyone in the local area who may be able to assist with enquiries to contact them as soon as possible. “Thankfully, incidents of this nature are in fact rare, but this is without doubt a very serious offence,” DC Menarry added. “I would urge anyone who knows anything about what happened to come forward and speak to us. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.” Contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 and quote incident 257 of 28 December. But a Vodka bottle holds more than a beer bottle and they don't need to buy petrol. On the other hand they might be too drunk to even throw the bottle.
