1 loco, 8 wagons and three sidings.
I've heard of 'Inglenook Sidings' before, but never gave it much notice, being more interested in dreaming of building enormous empires.
Might be fun to build though, quick and cheap as well. Have a look. http://www.wymann.info/ShuntingPuzzl...ook-rules.html |

You move in exalted circles John.
Including here of course! I might give 'Inglenook' a try. I've got a '00' 08, a few points and bits and pieces of track. A few more wagons and I should have everything I need. |

I've just had a search through various cupboards and drawers and come up with an embarrassment of riches. Several wagons, plenty of track and points, a small controller and eleven locomotives, four of which are suitable for shunting. All I need to build a version of Inglenook now is track underlay, bufferstops and a piece of wood to bung it all down on! And, as I have two steam shunters and two diesel, I'll be able to run it in two different periods.
Of topic, but I also came across a copy of 'The Observers Book of Locomotives', printed in 1964 and still with it's cover on showing the price. Five shillings. |

Thanks for the web site Trev. Good idea to do it in 00, the couplings work better!
I have 2 copies of the Observer Book of Locomotives, both well thumbed and sadly without their dust covers: 1st edition 1955 and revised edition 1960! John. |

Steam age running will be using the Hornby 'Terrier'. It needs a bit of running in, but it should be fine afterwards. For diesel days, I'll be using the Bachman '08', which runs like a dream. Apart from a test run in the shop, it has never been out of the box. And yet after two years without turning a wheel, it runs at a barely perceptible crawl. Excellent loco! |

I spent part of yesterday afternoon running the Terrier in, and it's almost as good as the 08 now. The rest of the time was spent doing the shunting puzzle. I loved it! It really is as much fun as it looks.
