London Midland and Scottish railway

Hi there
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me with some information, my grandfather worked for the above railway line as a steam raiser in 1930's 40's etc. He lived in West Ham so I assume he must have worked from a rail yard somewhere in that area. Can anyone suggest an online site that might be able to provide assistance in regards to staffing records, geneaology records , photos etc.

Thanks for your help
Jill

There are some good links on the NRM website, just type NRM into your search engine and look for the links to archive sites.
Welcome and a Happy New Year.
Mike.
NRM is the National Railway Museum at York, if you didn`t know.

Welcome to the Forum Jill.

I am sorry to tell you that you are looking for the equivellant of a needle in a haystack. The LMS employed over one million people during its existance. The records are kept at Kew and sadly you will have to go there to access them.

Unless he was exceptional in his work or had discaplinary action taken against him there is unlikely to be much on his record.

Sorry not to be more helpful. This is a fairly common query and unfortunate, the response must be the same.

best wishes,

John H-T.

Plaistow shed was a LT&SR shed until 1923 when it was taken over by the LMS
Plaistow is in the West Ham area of London.
Plaistow shed supplied the locos for passenger services out of Fenchurch Street.
Below are the shed codes after the shed was transferred to the eastern regeon of British Railways after nationalisation.
* 33A Plaistow (became sub-shed of 33B in 1959)[1]

* 33B Tilbury
* 33C Shoeburyness

Hope this is of use
