The Woodhead Line

There is a very good piece in the Railway Herald about the 41 mile Woodhead line with some B/W photos of some of the locos that worked it after the days of steam. A lot of class 76 and even a class 506 emu.

http://www.railwayherald.co.uk/issues/RHUK/Issue134.pdf

There is also a good write up about the East Somerset Railways big gala with a list of whats on. I will do my best to be there.

P.S. For those who don't know, you can log onto this e-mag for free and they will send it to your PC every Monday.

It is good DBTC and as you enjoyed it, you can look up past issues. Its a good way for the guys overseas to keep up to date with British Railways.

Hello Syd, yes the Railway Herald is very good and like you say it is free. And the class 76s, I used to go to Sheffield a lot when I was truck driving in the 70s and I remember them double headed pulling coal trains on the Woodhead line, I think they where shedded at Reddish. All the best Syd.

The Class 76's, or 26000'ers as we used to call them, were my favourite class of all time. I loved 'em! Used to go to Penistone to watch them trundle their way across the Pennines. Happy days. Just me, the call of the moorland birds, a flask of soup and some cheese sandwiches, and a seemingly endless procession of 26000'ers on coal and goods. I'm getting all misty eyed now!

Some interesting shots.

Interesting shot of two pairs of light engines passing each other going in opposite directions!

Best wishes,

John H-T.
