Do you mean the class 31/1 as originally built ?

The sounds of them coming into platform 16 at Kings Cross from Moorgate was awesome.

The throttle was wide open till just after emerging from the single bore tunnel and as it was on an up gradient braking the train was easy.

Wonderful sounds then. I belive they was using the old Mirlees engine at the time. The English Electric replacement just didn't sound good at all.

Happy days which we didn't appreciate fully at the time................
