HRH Duke of Gloucester reopens Duffield-Wirksworth Branch.
HRH Duke of Gloucester arrived at Duffield by East Midlands Trains today. The train stopped briefly at Duffield Network Rail Platform and the Duke then walked Across to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Platform. He rode on the footplate of Standard 2 78019 to Idridgehay and then in The LMS Inspection Salloon to Wirksworth where he was introduced to groups of volunteers and local School Children. He was then taken up the Incline to Ravenstor before final speeches and presentations.
The train was made up of 78019, Mk1 SK, newly restored LMS Open 3rd (1947) and the LMS Inspection Saloon (BR built).
.... and the sun shone!
Tomorrow is Shareholders' Day and then public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A few tickets still available: phone 01629 823076 for availability.
