Standard gauge throughout most of Africa is 3ft 6ins. Egypt, Sudan, through East Africa, Central Africa down into South Africa. Ecuador, New Zealand, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland all ran on 3ft 6inch gauge. By European standards it is all narrow gauge. To those of us who worked on these railways 3ft 6inch was standard. Europe ran on meter gauge and anything less than 3-6 was narrow gauge.
