This gets mentioned here from time to time, but I think the Safety Police know that they'll open a can of worms if they do.
Lots of footage of trains bouncing along whilst their drivers are struggling to keep their eyes open - often dropping into Microsleep or even nodding off for a few minutes.
When you're crawling
into bed at 06:00 this week, and
out of bed at 03:00 next week, then
working all night the week after that, your body clock is mangled. Then they expect you to be able to concentrate for 5 hours at a time - and yet the motorway signs all over the land tell well-rested car drivers that it's not safe to drive a car continuously for more than 2 hours.
That's double standards by the Department of Rail & Road, and will be the train driver's defence if he/she wrecks a train. Once they start looking at the work hours and travelling times in the industry there'll be a s**t storm, which is why I don't think it'll happen any time soon.
