If the Gates are the same height as a current 00 Scale Loco the Chances are they are 0 gauge. The box also looks the same as other Bassett Lowke pre-war products. I have also seen a picture of a Bassett Lowke Level Crossing that looks very similar.

Have you tried laying a piece of 00 gauge track by the gate?
