Yes indeed, Canadian aircraft builder gets British train order.

And I just don't get this Air Condition lark.

1) Europe (quite rightly for once) has been pushing for all electrical devices to REDUCE their power requirements; hence all these directives about efficient vacuum cleaners. And yet here we have train manufacturers sealing up the windows and making the trains much more power-hungry. Very un green.

2) Because the windows are sealed up, if the aircon fails the train will have to come out of service.

IMHO the current stock such as the Networker series have got it right - hopper windows which the passengers can operate to their preference.

Of course there is a reason. TOCs won't have to employ an operator to shut windows on every unit running through the washer which will save them a bit of money.

And Bombardier gets steady after-sales work refurbishing the a/c units.
