Having worked this line and through the station, there are signs on either side of the crossing clearly stating that if lights continue to flash, there is a second train approaching.

It is a pity that the media can't get facts correct though, as one paper claims the train was stopping, when in fact it was passing at speed, and according to local BBC news last night, at 75mph.

The platforms at Waterbeach are separated by the crossing, with the 'up' line platform opposite and to the right as shown, with the 'down' one to the left and out of the camera shots.

As far as I am aware, only First Capital Connect services stop at this station, as they have done for a number of years now, whereas National Express and East Midlands pass through, but stand to be corrected, as it is a couple of years since I went to/through here.
