Great British Railway Journeys - Any Fans Here?

Hi guys,

I'm a big fan of the BBC's Great British Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo and wondered if there are any more fans on here.

The show is just so easy to watch yet incredible interesting too. I must have watched every episode so far and find it to be one of the better shows on TV.

Have you got a favourite episode? Has he ever come to a station near you?

My favourite episodes are probably the first few of the third season, because he comes to East Anglia and uncovers so rather dark historical secrets about the railways around here (grave robbing!). Luckily, the 3rd series is out next week I think so I've got that on pre-order :)

Anyone a fan of the show here?

I found a clip of the Great Yarmouth episode on YouTube...

Very interesting! :)

I too watch these, and yes he came through nearby Downham Market on one show, on his way to King's Lynn. I missed the one last week where he went to Peterborough.

Yes, I'm a fan of it, but haven't seen all the programmes, and they do uncover some fascinating places. Portillo has grown into the role of prestenter over the years, and now seems more comfortable in front of the camera.

We like it as well. What i like about them is they are not totally railway and look at lots of local stuff as well.

I like MP's style very much. He finds interesting things about each of the places he visits, and makes you want to know more. He obviously likes trains but doesn't bang on about them or pretend to be an enthusiast. I've got most episodes recorded and am working my way through them – will be a long time before I've seen 'em all though!

I enjoy the programmes as well, but haven't seen all of them.

Enjoy all the programmes for what they reveal about our country ... great stuff.

Enjoyed the Scottish trip this week, especially when he got to drive the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST, similar to our No.3 at Wirksworth.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

I too enjoy this programme, though I have missed quite a few. I too find them so interesting relating to our history, not just including the railways but many aspects of our heritage. I love it and I will catch up with those missed as I am sure they will be repeated as they seem to be very popular as viewing figures show an average of around 2.25 million. I know the previous series can be purchased and I may go down that road.
All in all good viewing and well worth seeing.
Cheers
Phil
