An empty stock movement of a west coast railways train with two class 47s has derailed in Salford today. There was a fire, but it appears at the moment that no-one was hurt.

Derailment in Salford.
Hi all, going back to the class 47 derailment, and fire in Salford, has anyone heard how this loco set on fire,as this type of derailment does not cause a fire unless the diesel tank ruptured.
Also i see this incident was recorded as having happened at Windsor Bridge, Wilburn Street Bridge is no where near Windsor Bridge, this is the lanky,L& Y, this derailment was on the LNWR, i used to sit on a wall just a 100 yds from this derailment in my train spotting days,or at Ordsal lane carriage sidings. Their used to be a large engineering works across from Wilburn Bridge does anyone remember the name, all i can remember is that it had Brown in the name. |
The large engineering works was David Brown, well known manufacturer of tractors and Aston Martin cars.........I also used to train spot on Ordsall Lane in the 50's while waiting for my mother to finish her shift at Brown's
