I found this film about building LMS diesel 10000 on you tube.

Excellent historic footage. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Thanks for the link Pre 65, i enjoyed the film, i did see 10000 quite a few times at Stafford station and viewed it as just a temporary experiment!!
I didn't realise that Crewe were turning out Sir William Stanier FRS, and City of Salford at the same time, i thought 10000 was built a few years later. |
I never saw either of the pair in action, but I saw one of them in the roundhouse at Willesden in the early 1960s. It must have been awaiting the call to the scrapyard.

All my village turned out to see 10000 on its maiden run - in LMS livery

I only remember seeing it in combination with its twin, and unless my memory is playing tricks on me it was only ever on the Royal Scot. The first sighting was a bit of a novelty, but after the first time it was a sense of disappointment that it wasn't a Duchess on the train
I'm sure there is a scheme to build a replica of 10000, but I've no knowledge of the details |

Fantastic filming. I too thought 10000 came out later in the fifties. Never realised we had diesel electric that early. (way behind Europe?)
Anyway it was nice to see that film so thanks Pre65 All the best Phil |
A nice bit of film, very informative. The commentary seemed strange to our ears, reminded me of the CoI films with the stilted language. I saw many of those as an RAF Apprentice in the late 1950's.
It was always a thrill to see "The Twins" on the Northbound Scottish expresses passing through Golborne on a summer Saturday. |
