ZUV Shark brake vans ***Question***

Hi guys

Does anyone know if they still use them on the network as I have not seen one in action for years?

If so, where can they be found?

Cheers

With respect, Axe, he did say "on the network". The Bluebell Railway isn't. Yet.

Yes, he said that the Bluebell Railway had got one. Seems to have deleted his posting now tho'.

I thought the missing reply (with photo) was worthy of staying and I (for one) thought it enhanced the topic.

Can we have it back please ?

Philip, have you not heard the old English adage: "Once bitten, twice shy"?

Well I think the comment that caused you to withdraw the post (and picture) was totally un called for. It was to do with the question even if not specifically the answer requested.

I found it helpful because I had no idea what they were (are ) and probably other people did as well.

Don't let others "bully" you !

I did say "With Respect". Is that "Bullying?

Regards, 62440.

Perhaps not, but did you really need to say it in the first place ?

As I said before, the post helped me to understand the original question, so was of benefit.

I'm sure the moderators will intervene if things are posted that should not be.(GRIN)

I have lost the use of the smilies for some reason.(SMILE)

I think we should agree to differ on this one, Phillip, and shake hands and let it drop.;)

No problems, life is too short (more so at our age) to fall out and we both want to enjoy the forum for a few more years. (WINK)

Thanks 62440 and pre65 for that.

Axe: I for one would be delighted if you would reinstate at least the photo.

We have a Shark on The EVR and it is due to get quite a hammering over the next few months as we top up the ballast over the three and a half miles from Shottle to Duffield.

I think there are a few Sharks left on the National Network, but I don't know how much use they get. Will try to find out.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Hi Axe, I would also like you to reinstate that photo in the Gallery if you like as there is a lot to learn about Shark Brake Vans for me at least.

G6 UXU 12th June 2010 11:56

I agree, please reinstate the photo Chris, and like everyone is saying we all still have a lot to learn about every aspect of our hobby, all the best.

I remember those pway brakevans, has there ever been one modelled in "OO" gauge ?

I dont think MANY preserved railways have got one though.

We have one at chasewater (B993736 built 1956 BRCW) that is undergoing a full body overhaul. Seeing the carpenters skills joining old to new is amazing. Will post some photos next week. A very useful and versatile van.

There has been an engineers Brakevan next to the platform at Shenfield Station, Essex for many years. It looks like a Shark anyone able to confirm it's identity?

TRP 14th June 2010 22:21

The KESR have a Shark too - No.DS62862. I'm not sure if it is in traffic at present. I've found a photo in the gallery (not mine - it's Craig Stretton's) showing the shark behind the tender of visiting O1 No.65 - http://www.railwayforum.net/gallery/...&searchid=2749
