Hello From Lincolnshire

Hi All,
My interests vary from steam to modern day freight locomotives. I live in the East Midlands, but as you will note from my user name, my interest in the railways started as a boy in Liverpool. Aintree shed was my local haunt as it was only a couple of hundred yards away from where I lived and I would spend my spare time watching what turned out to be the final days of steam.
I also used to visit Bankhall and Edgehill Sheds in Liverpool. This of course was before the days of razor wire and CCTV !!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to using the website and hopefully contributing from time to time. :)

Hello Aintree27B and welcome to the Railway Forum. My local shed was Bulawayo in what was Southern Rhodesia. There were no restrictions on shed visits and often the drivers would let us ride the footplate.

A big hello from me too Aintree27b, I see you are from the town where I spent the first ten years of my life. I used to travel from Market Rasen to Lincoln every day for school! It was great in the fifties as we were invariably hauled by steam. My dad worked on the railway and we enjoyed many benefits as a result, including cab rides by his work mates. As a boy of seven to ten that was awesome! Then we moved to Lincoln and started my spotting in earnest! Those were the days.
Anyway enjoy the forum and look forward to seeing your posts.
All the best
Phil

Hello Aintree 27B, welcome to the Railway forum. My friend was a passed driver at 27B, mainly firing/driving 'Crabs.' No doubt you would have seen him passing, he left the railway at the end of steam.

Hi Aintree 27b,
Welcome to the forum. Do you remember the song by The Scaffold about Aintree Iron ? That was the nickname for Aintree shed; The Grid Iron because of it's layout.

It seems that nobody (except perhaps the writer of the song) actually knows what the "Aintree Iron" is (or was). You only have to look at all the speculation here...
