Rail work 'will put people off' (BBC News)

Managers fear passengers might be permanently put off using Lincoln train station by a closure this summer.

More from BBC News...

Isn't summer the worst possible time to close a station for so long?

Yes and no. Would you rather have 6 weeks closure during the summer, or 10 weeks closure during the winter because of the harder working conditions and shorter days etc?

Or 12 weeks closure if the weather turns really bad in winter.

I suppose.

I would pick the time of least usage regardless of the time of year I suppose. I just don't see that being summer.

October or Febuary, or something like that.

I take your point there's no ideal time, I was just thinking out loud.

[QUOTE=Deathbyteacup;16857]October or Febuary, or something like that.

Even then somebody would moan. As usual the public want a better rail system and better, nicer looking stations but when the work is scheduled moan, moan, moan and better moan.

As I have said before the railway can't do right for doing wrong.

Les

I agree it is a real problem. To rebuild a worn out railway system safely and economically while it is still working is hard. Although I am a supporter of Beeching, I admit it would have been usefull to still have all those little byways to reroute trains while the main lines were being rebuilt

Locojoe has put a post up about Lincoln. Whenever the work is done it will upset somebody. It shows the shortsightedness of rationalisation in the past.
Richard.
