Farewell to the Folkestone Branch.

I beleive that it has been confirmed that the Folkestone Branch will close permanently after Kingfisher's Railtour next Saturday.

I was fortunate enough to be on the penultimate trip yesterday, although we nearly didn't make it due to a fire in signalling equipment near Barnes which held us up for 2 hours!

It was very sad to see the state of the Harbour Station. The Venise Simplon Orient Express Office was a poignant reminder of the glory days: hundreds of thousands of arrivals and departures! See Thumbnail. It would be a nice idea for the window to be removed to say the NRM before they are distroyed.

I will post one or two photos of Tangmere's accent of the 1in30 incline.

It's bad news that the Folkestone Branch will close permanently.

I don't know the Folkstone Branch..... but I view this just like I did Beechings axe. Whichever way, it's a Public service and is worth more than an accountants book! OK, it may be "losing now" ..but what does the future hold, especially in days of rising fuel costs?

Close it: and it may become a cycling lane (in the good weather) if you're lucky.

Or what's more likely is; an handy conduit for feral kids to misbehave, druggies to ply their trade, or theives to escape the police..........

I think that it's worth the money to keep it open as a railway.......don't you?

I think they are knocking it down to build a bigger Marina for all the posh people with boats. Though I suppose if you have a a boat at Folkstone, you cant be that posh.

Maybe someone knows more?
