A CHARTERED train will be pulling into Saunderton Station in November for the first time in more than 40 years.

Pathfinder Tours has agreed to stop at the station en route to York on Saturday, November 26, after an invitation from the Friends of Saunderton Station group.

The community group took responsibility for the station just over a year ago and restored the Edwardian waiting room to its former glory. Wycombe District councillor David Devine, for Bledlow and Bradenham, was involved in securing the private charter train visit to celebrate of reopening of the waiting room facility, which also houses exhibits on the station's history.

He said: "We wanted to find a special way of celebrating the first anniversary of this achievement. It has taken a lot of time to arrange, but a day trip to York for many the home of the railways seems a fine and fitting tribute. Charter Trains are normally the reserve of the larger stations, like High Wycombe and Beaconsfield, so it is a real masterstroke for such a small rural station having this honour bestowed on it."

The diesel train is expected to stop in Saunderton at 7.35am to take passengers to the renowned St Nicholas Fayre, in York, which marks the beginning of Christmas festivities.
