G'day Roger,
I was in Nice in 2008.
I was amazed by the tram caper at the Place Massena.
To prevent marring the atmosphere in the square, no dangling catenary.
The trams stopped each side of the square, dropped the pan and then rolled through, I presume on batteries.
Stopping to raise the pan once clear of the square.
I did not have spare time to explore the tram network.
But, I did cop; "Photo ont interdite" from security guards when attempting to aim me camera at La Gare Nice Ville.
Steering la voiture around the Cote d Azure was an interesting challenge.
Steve.

Hi Steve

We are in Nice most years in November, although this year it will be Saint-Raphael a little along the coast to the West. I have developed quite an interest in the historic tramways and other metre-gauge lines which formed a very extensive network in Provence in the first half of the 20th Century. If you are interested you can follow the thread on this forum.

Best wishes

Roger

G'day Roger,
I am at my occasional haunt, the local library, freebie www.
So, I have snavelled yer first page Nice trams wordpress article.
I will peruse such at home, if the page saved correctly to me usb stick.
My home www access is very restricted and I don't attempt to download anything large in file size.
Here in smog hollow Sydney there is the SLR, articulated light rail similar to the nice and other such French tram things.
I don't think that it drops the pan and coasts anywhere.
I remember the Brissy trams from my childhood.
It was often quicker to journey to the city from our northern suburb to hoof to Chermside and catch a tram.
Rather than wait for a narrow gauge soot belching thing to rattle in from our suburb Zillmere.
Steve.
