Hull Docks.
 

There recently seems to have been a big increase in traffic over the line to King George Dock and the BP (Saltend) facility in Hull just recently. It all seems to be coal though, either EWS or Freightliner. The trains from Saltend, which I believe used to convey acetic acid, seem to have stopped completely. But it appears that there are around three coal trains a day, almost every time I am in sight of the line, a coal train is either going out full, or going in empty. I even saw a Class 66 running light engine back towards Hull a few days ago. And that's the first light engine I've seen on the line in donkeys years.

Does anyone who is into the more modern scene have any more information on the increase in coal movement? There is a large, fully undercover loading facility at King George Dock now (I know this 'cos my younger brother is the Safety manager for ABP Hull and he was involved in its construction), but I thought I'd read that specific terminals for coal were coming on line at Immingham.

GBRF have won a contract to take coal from King George Dock to a couple of power stations in the East Midlands and new loading sidings are currently being laid. There's even talk of some sections of the branch being doubled and it's reckoned that the number of trains using the route will rise threefold. Godd news!!! :)
