Survey for GCSE flat packed building project

Hello,
I am designing and making a flat packed model building for my GCSE Graphic Products. I would be very grateful if you could fill out this survey:

1. What time period/ era is your model set in?

2.What is the setting of your railway? eg rural or urban.

3.What kind of building would you be interested in buying? eg. tunnel/ garage where the train can pass through, or a house or shop.

4.What scale do you use?

5.How much would you be willing to spend on a flat packed building?

6.Do you visit model railway exhibitions? If so, which ones.

7.What do you look out for/ what makes you interested when buying a model building?

8.Is there anything that would discourage you from buying a model?

9.If you were to buy a flat packed model building, what material would you be looking for?

Thank you very much for taking the time to fill out this survey, any other comments would be welcome :)

Hi James,
One of my sons is in the middle of GCSEs too, so I'm more than happy to fill in your survey.

1. Late 1950s- early 1960s.
2. Urban.
3. Industrial buildings - warehouses, factories etc. Low-relief to go at back of a layout.
4. OO.
5. It really depends on the quality for me. If it's perfect for my layout, up to £20- £30.
Generally though, as railway modelling is a hobby, most modellers are looking for low- cost accesories.
6. I'll visit any within an hour of my home when work permits. York is my favourite.
7. Quality and suitability for my layout - I'm fairly experienced at kit and scratch
building, so ease of construction isn't really an issue for me. May well be an issue if
you want to sell a lot of models though.
8. Not suitable for my layout. Doesn't look right.
9. I am happy with card (check out Metcalfe Models), plastic (Ratio/Wills) and would
also consider etched brass.

Good luck with your project. If you need any more help, just ask. I'm sure there will be many helpful folk on this forum.
