The guard is the man
Who sits in the van
Which rides at the back of the train.

The driver up front
Thinks the guard is a c***
And the guard thinks the driver's the same.

(Quoted from a wee book of Scottish railway poetry!)

Welcome to the Forum Ian. You could have quite a job on your hands here. I think the Midland railway records are in Derby. Will do some research and get back to you.

Best wishes,

John H-T.
