Survey about obstacles on tracks

Hello,
We are from the Chair and Institute for Rail Vehicles and Transport Systems at RWTH Aachen University and do research in the field of assistance systems for railways. As part of this research, we created this survey.

https://www.soscisurvey.de/zug21/

For the introduction of autonomous assistance systems for railways, it is important to collect information which describes the situations in the area surrounding the track. Such situations must be recognized by a technical system in the future. We would like to collect these situations in this study in order to be able to develop requirement specifications.
We would be pleased if you would take about 15 minutes for our survey. The data is recorded anonymously and evaluated for scientific research purposes.

We look forward to your participation in our survey!

Perhaps this was the first obstacle.

Well they've fixed the link now, if anyone wishes to partake.

However my understanding is that 'autonomous rail vehicles' is a euphemism for driverless trains.

As we say here in Blighty, "Smart turkeys don't vote for Christmas", so as a train driver I'll not be participating myself.

However in the spirit of International Friendship (which I consider to be very important, and especially so right now) I would point you towards the research that is being undertaken for ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System).

I last heard that in connection with autonomous Level Crossing operations, Ground Radar is being used to detect objects similar in size to a small child lying flat on the ground.

Google is your friend.

Cheers, John

That is a good saying and one I shall remember!
