Vietnam is the country which has a pretty large number of railway transportation users. However, the industry technology and capacity haven't...

Vietnam is the country which has a pretty large number of railway transportation users. However, the industry technology and capacity haven't properly satisfied users' demands. Therefore, Vietnam railways industry wants to build a more mordern railways system to better serve its customers. This will be a big and important project which is expected to replace the current North - South railway line . There are many countries participate in bidding this project such as Germany, Japan, France ... they are all countries that leading rail technology in the world. And it seems that Vietnam's railway industry have agreed to choose rail technology from Japan.

Basic parameters of high-speed rail project north - south:

_ Length is have high speed rail lines : 1570 km
_ Shinkansen
_ Speed : This type of board has the most advanced technology of Japan. It can travel at the speed of 300 km / h . It's several times faster than with to the train system in Vietnam has used.
_ Estimated costs : 56 billion $

Introduction Projec

Although the project has been proposed to carry out for a long time but it could not be implemented due to the high cost. Also, it was reseached carefully by the railway experts. According to Japanese’s statistics, it’s unreasonable to finish the high speed railway in a short time. With the nature condition and facilities in Vietnam, the experts predict that at least 12-13 years to finish this project is needed .
Power source that is one of important conditions should be supplied enough to ensure the train operates continuously, avoids the sudden loss of power because it can cause accident seriously when the the train operates with high speed. Natural and technical condition in Vietnam will be unable to guarantee this. Furthermore, the expense is so big, should ticket price will not be low. Japanese experts also consider the customers' demand. According to plan, 26 railway stations are going to be built in big cities in VN. However, there is a few city meet the requirement of over 1 million people per city. This matter is really difficult to be solved so experts warning that it is necessary to speed up the population urbanization . In 2010, Transport Minister to visit Japan, Vietnam and tried to usethe railway in Vietnam.

To solve this matter, the Vietnamese and Japanese experts have agreed to build the road by segment. They will build two railways from Hanoi to Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City to Nhatrang in advance. Estimate time to complete these railways by 2035

The decision to build the high-speed rail line was in fact met with plenty of controversy. It argued that the construction of such an expensive rail line would be very risky . This may greatly influence on the developing economy of Vietnam . In the current circumstance, there is another method proposed that is to upgrade the railway system in Vietnam, improve the train speed from 100 to 150 km/h

This project is still in the process of debate, more information will be updated in the next newsletter.

Over here in South Africa in a place called Ficksburg there is a large estate called Sandstone Estate that is a working farm, but with a difference.

The farm boasts some 30 kilometres of narrow gauge track and each day steam trains are being used to transport farm equipment and materials where ever needed. The owner has some 10 Garrett locomotives but many small saddle tank types that were used to haul timber and sugar cane on private lines.

Not only does the estate have the railway but it boasts the largest collection of antique tractors in South Africa. Each year the estate is open to the public for 10 days, usually in March, and the public are allowed unfettered access to the loco sheds and to travel on the trains.

The owner of the Estate, as you can imagine, must be a little eccentric and he often travels around the farm in an old military tank. Oh yes, he also has a working Foden Steam Truck.
