Hurry now to visit Ireland as I fear it wont be too long now before all you'll see are units and classes 071 and 201....
these old timers from the sixties are clinging on still....

Nice pics Arthur.
I can recall seeing small GM's in Galway and (from a distance) in Cork city. And one of them passing over a bridge near Pearse Street in Dublin. Unfortunately my interest in railways had waned a bit at that point (early 80's) and I never bothered taking photo's. Which is a shame 'cos now I have developed quite a big interest in the railways of the Republic.

theres only two of the single cab locos left now....124 and 134...both detined for preservation im pleased to say but still earning a living.I'd say about half the later twin cab locos are gone by now.

Cheers for the link Arthur, I'll have a look through later.
Best memory I have is of one of the double cabbed locomotives heading toward Galway city. I was on a camp site just outside of the town at the time, trying to stroke a particularly bad tempered donkey...and the train went past. Cue for the donkey to go psychotic and try to bite me!
As I say, I can recall seeing a group of CIE loco's in the distance in Cork, but at the time my mate and I were a bit preoccupied, having just found out that Cork pubs had to shut between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. And it was about a quarter to 4.
